Beyond the Diagnosis – The Magic of Alignment and the Biology of Belief
Apr 08, 2025
WELCOME TO EPISODE 236
Friends, we’re back—together again to explore the kind of magic that doesn't come in a bottle, a scan, or a lab result. In this soul-filled solo episode, I dive deep into a fundamental truth that continues to surface in my own healing journey: health isn’t just physical. It’s about alignment—mind, body, spirit, and purpose.
We’re talking radical remission, the stories we believe about our bodies, and how shifting our perception can literally rewire our biology. I’ll unpack why naming a condition isn’t the same as understanding it, how to avoid getting stuck in a diagnosis, and why sometimes the most powerful medicine is found in community and connection. If you've been feeling stuck, boxed in by a label, or simply looking for magic in your everyday—this one's for you.

Welcome to the Beautifully Broken podcast.
I'm your host Freddie Kimmel, and on the show we explore the survivor's journey, practitioners making a difference, and the therapeutic treatments and transformational technology that allow the body to heal itself.
0:18
Witness the inspiration we gain by navigating the human experience with grace, humility, and a healthy dose of mistakes.
Because part of being human is being beautifully broken.
Friends, we're back.
0:37
We're back.
We're about to talk about some magic.
You know, there's something I feel really deeply within my souls that sometimes when we're talking about health and Wellness, we'll separate a system.
Maybe it's a rash that's forming on your elbows or behind your knees, and we could say, well, it's possible the lymphatic system is trying to move something other than self out of the body.
1:02
Or maybe maybe it's that my eyesight is changing and I'm noticing the distance I have to hold my iPhone away from my face is becoming longer and longer.
So I've got to do something to focus on vision or maybe it's joint pain, maybe it's, you know, every time I sit down in this chair, I know it's really, I'm favoring my right side to push my body up and I really feel in that right knee.
1:28
So let's take a scan and let's just look at that joint because we'd assume because where the pain is emanating from is where the problem is.
And friends, that is just not been my experience.
This really isn't about health.
1:45
Think we a lot of times we name things.
It's a great story.
Doctor Tom said, you know, he's like, what do you think about Orion's belt?
I was like, what do you mean?
He's like, what do you think it is?
I was like, well, it's a constellation.
He's like, yeah, but is it real?
I was like, of course it does.
2:00
I can look up at the sky.
I can see the constellation.
Look at it.
He's like Freddie, That's a story.
At one time people were looking for ways to manage direction without the use of a map or compass.
So they they created a story around those three dots up there and they said that's Orion's bell.
2:18
And I thought that's, that's a beautiful way to explain it.
It's not indifferent from somebody saying, you know, you've got diminished strength in your arms, your nerves are tingling.
Look, there's actually a, when we look at a scan of your brain, there's a spot we can see a spot in your brain.
2:34
So we're going to call you somebody struggling with Ms. You get that label of Ms. Now that's valuable at some level to name something, but it also keeps us in a little bit of a box.
So more and more than I'm in the space I keep, I have a deep knowing.
2:53
I have a deep knowing.
It's not about health.
It's about aligning all these different parts of life to unlock something that is extraordinary.
And when the body, it's like when we jump up a level, it's nothing less than magic.
3:10
It's nothing less than magic, you know, these aren't all separate pieces and systems.
We can't reduce things down to neurotransmitters because I am so much more than a neurotransmitter.
You know, it's almost like the interwoven threads of fabric.
3:26
This we can think about our well-being and when we harmonize, when we harmonize, you know, think about what a harmony is.
The results can be nothing short of miraculous when things are in alignment with with food and our interpersonal relationships and our sleep hygiene and our, you know, I could go on and on and on.
3:50
But one of my favorite books that I think about magic, magic personified or magic in the physical is the work of Doctor Kelly Turner.
And in her research and book, which is called Radical Remission, she looked at over 1500 cases of individuals who experienced spontaneous healing from cancer.
4:14
And what she found out was amazing.
You know, these radical remissions where people's tumors just melted away, which she set out to disprove.
And by the time she got the case, whatever 300, she's like, what's happening with these people?
4:32
You know, what she came to see is that after profound shifts in their lifestyle, in their belief system, in their mindset, things changed.
And these were commonalities across all these radical remissions.
4:49
The data pointed to the idea that while biology plays a role, the way we think, the way we feel, the way we connect, and the way we live had even more of a powerful influence on their long term health outcomes.
5:07
And through these case studies, these 1500 case studies that there were no abnormalities, these were patterns that you could see.
And for me, like looking at this research, it really serves as a beacon where I put my compass.
5:23
I was like, there's something here.
And so, you know, you got these pieces of the mind, the body, the spirit and the purpose.
And when we align all these things, many times we get we get magic.
You know, Doctor Bruce Lipton, another great book, The Biology of Belief.
5:40
You know, he says the moment you change your perception is the moment you rewrite the chemistry of your body.
And his work looked at epigenetics and how our beliefs can turn our genes on or off.
You know that subconscious mind which is running 95% of our programming, it does not distinguish between the real and the imagined input.
6:04
So when we have consistently developed these beliefs in our ability to heal and grow, the body tends to follow.
You know, there's a great study in the frontiers of psychology that supports this work.
And it shows that cognitive reframing, shifting a negative thought into a +1, can reduce stress inflammation by up to 30%.
6:31
That is not mindset.
That is molecular biology at work.
And so this isn't the only thing we do.
But why would you leave that 30% off the table?
I would add that into my shift in maybe my, my precision medical care or my leaning into regulating my circadian biology.
6:55
And all that means is waking up with the sun and starting to down regulate when that sun goes down.
And we can look at all the biological benefits of that, right, as we're governed by these these principles that exist in nature.
You know, the more and more I spend time in this space, it's valuable to what's, you know, happening in the body.
7:19
You know, we have to listen to the symptoms of the gut's expression when we have IBS or chronic Constipation.
And we can do a microbiome stool analysis and we can look at what percentages of microbes are or are not there.
But moving that one thing doesn't always deliver health on the other side.
7:38
And that just continues to be my experience.
I think one of the most dangerous things we can do is start treating paperwork and labs.
You know, the last thing I want to say on this very short podcast, my goal was to keep it under 5.
And you guys know, I'm a talker, but in the media this week, there's a clip circulating of Stacy Sims, who's a brilliant, brilliant thought leader in the exercise and Physiology space.
8:05
And she's sitting down with Mel Robbins and she says, you know, ice baths are bad for women.
And right away Mel's like, oh, good, 'cause I don't like the cold, you know?
And she goes on to look at the research that exists.
And the predominant amount of research in the space is on men.
8:21
Men and and women's Physiology is very different.
But here's my thought is that in my head, I don't reduce, you know, again, I don't want to do it in allopathic medicine.
I don't want to do it in complementary Wellness.
So I don't want to reduce an ice bath down to a, you know, something where I have, you know, they're ready to do a blood draw after I get out of a cold tin box.
8:43
And we're going to measure my catecholamine.
So we're going to do an EEG of my brain.
You know, we can think of this very sterile experience, you know, measuring the amount of toxicity that comes out in my sweat in a finished sauna versus an infrared 1.
You know, shove that to the side for a second and imagine that these women that that cold therapy is bad for, you know, and their experience and maybe the like a small amount of science in a small subset of the population.
9:14
But if we take 15 women and we go on a trip together and we go to Wisconsin in the winter and we get to know each other and we share meals and food and ceremony, and then we go out on a lake and we have ancient guides teaching people how to cut through the ice.
9:36
And there is this community of experience of doing a really hard thing together.
As someone who has witnessed this, people getting in and out, it is nothing short of a miracle watching the emotional and physical and psychological shifts of this experience.
9:56
And you do that for a weekend.
And because I've been in that container and I've seen those transformations and I've seen the lifelong bonds, because it wasn't about cold and it sure as shit wasn't about the right temperature.
10:11
It was about coming together and doing something hard as a community.
It was building this connection that is unbreakable, and it was about having an experience.
Sometimes we add things to the menu of life, not just because it checks a box or we think it's good or bad.
10:30
We're going to put it in the black and white category, which I wish we would stop doing as thought leaders, but it's so transcendent.
There is magic there.
And so from my experience around this, there is magic everywhere if you want to look for it.
10:48
There's also despair.
So it's up to you.
What goggles are you going to put on this morning?
That's all I really want to say, guys.
