EPISODE TRANSCRIPT
Freddie Kimmel (00:00.974)
Welcome to the Beautifully Broken podcast. I'm your host, Freddie Kimmel, and on this show, we explore the survivor's journey, practitioners making a difference, and the therapeutic treatments and transformational technology that allow the body to heal itself. Witness the inspiration we gain by navigating the human experience with grace, humility, and a healthy dose of mistakes. Because part of being human is being beautifully broken.
Freddie Kimmel (00:35.245)
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the beautifully broken podcast and I'll be honest with you, I am due to my editor a solo episode and I'm pulled between four or five different topics I want to address. But what's coming up for me right now is a state of gentle overwhelm with medicine, functional medicine, bioregulatory medicine, equality, inequality.
the state of the world. feel pulled in lot of directions. And when I say gentle overwhelm, I question where to best apply my focus and direction of my energy. I could use the word purpose. You know, I would like to offer anybody that's listening to this podcast, one thing that gets me out of bed in the morning, and keeps me on my feet and keeps me right as rain is being aligned with a purpose. And
It could be something as simple as what are you doing today to help humanity? What are you doing to move the world forward? Seven years ago, that was singing on a stage in New York City and doing music theater, knowing people came into an auditorium and there was an energetic exchange of a ticket price. And for two hours, they left their pain and their baggage and their suffering behind and they were transported away to another place.
And I remember always reminding myself, you're doing important work. You're doing important work. It's not about you. It's not about your career. It's not about your voice. It's the collective effort to pull together the story, which is magical from the other side of the fence. So today, in contrast, is me interviewing thought leaders in the wellness space. It could be consulting a wellness technology company to better serve humanity.
whether that's product development or education, you name it. And I'll be honest with you, walking out of the last two conferences I've been with hundreds of vendors and hundreds of brilliant speakers, each one in their own right deserves some type of an award or to be celebrated for their work. But I still see a lack of togetherness. I still see
Freddie Kimmel (02:58.841)
a lack of collaboration. It's my supplement line or my beliefs around iron toxicity or my system that manages inflammation throughout all tissues and collaboration is lacking. Now I can easily say that's as a result of capitalism, right? We each think of our own things and then we perfect it and then we monetize it and it makes
It brings in energy and it supports the economy. I'm gonna go back to where I started and try to pull apart this idea of feeling overwhelmed. And I guess what I wanna say is I'm really missing this idea of collaboration. And I think organically when someone's in community, when you're living in community, when you're engaging, when you're rearing each other's children, when you're developing a set of policies to live by organically,
this would all work out. But because we live in this global society dominated by the interweb, where we're, it's like a fake large community hyper-connected above and beyond what many say is society's ability to sustain. This is a product, the chaos I'm feeling is a product. And I don't know if I'm alone on this. I don't know if other people feel overwhelmed. And it's like,
man, where do you point your headlights down the road? Sometimes it just feels like there's so much information, we're drowning in information, we're starving for knowledge. Is anybody tired of that phrase yet? It doesn't get old for me, it still rings true. So I will offer you as of late, what I'm doing is I'm just trying to go back to the basics. I'm trying to go back to the basics of these basic.
lifestyle hacks, these lifestyle techniques that I know to be tried and true for grounding me and allowing me to find my center. Number one is music. If I'm feeling lost, I will put on some tunes. And right now I'm really digging on this band, Layline out of Austin, Texas, ethereal goddess-like sounds.
Freddie Kimmel (05:21.185)
And it's so good there on Spotify so you can look them up, Leyline. And it's just ethereal, earthy tones. Beautiful quartet of women that just really understand the voice and instrumentation and mixing vocal tracks. Really grounding for me. The other thing tried and true that I've mentioned a couple times on my social media is waking up with the sun and getting outside for bare minimum of 30 minutes. I try to do that before 9 a.m. and I allow the red light
dominant spectrums of red light that are coming up to kickstart my mitochondrial engines, wake up my body before I let the caffeine do that. Obviously, there's movement in there, right? So it's outside, it's sunlight, it's music, I'm allowing music to come in when I feel the energy gets sucked out of the room and feel this vacuum. Other things that I'm leaning into are stillness. Back to this idea of a hyper connected society with so many strings connecting us, right? It's like
There is no separate anything in for more. I just think about this web of information that we live in and stillness for me, it allows me to step back from the noise and separate myself even five minutes of breathing. And you know, I'll be real honest with you. I don't think anyone has any business running a company or being involved in the wellness space or claiming to be some sort of a wellness influencer.
if you don't embody and do these things. They're so basic and I know everybody falls off. I know everybody has their days, but at the pace things are going, at the pace things will advance with all these new forms of technology, you owe it not only to yourself, but humanity to step back and breathe on the daily. And for me and my lived experience,
What it does is it turns down the volume on what I'm labeling or naming as chaos or overwhelm. And it puts me right back in my body and I'm able to be effective again. And so I play with sessions as little as five minutes. This morning, I literally got on YouTube and I looked up a classic tried and true Wim Hof breathing exercise. And man, it just put me right as rain. Right as rain after that session, felt
Freddie Kimmel (07:45.32)
the tension change and all my muscles and tendons. And you know, here's the thing I love about some of these things is they're just free, right? They're just free. Another thing I'm really, really loving right now that's bringing me back into my body, it's keeping me calm and grounded is my eating times. I have been really, really committed to eating well before the sun goes down. You know, I want my body.
not focusing on digestion. And I mean, I'm giving it like four hours before I go to bed, four and a half hours. So my body has digested the food that I ate, that my body is committed to eating cancer cells, to building back up my neurotransmitters, to moving away crepitus in my joints so they're less achy. And I have to tell you everything functions better. It's better bowel movements. It's better sleep.
It's more coherent when I wake up in the morning. So it's a game changer. It's really allowing, you know what it is. And again, I hope this isn't over complicated. I don't think it will be. hope it's a gentle, I was going to see slap in the arm. I hope it's a gentle nudge that the body needs time. The body needs time to digest the food. And if you're eating, if you're reaching for food,
I guarantee you're not hungry. Knowing the body can go in extreme levels, 40 days without food. my God, that sounds insane. But you can certainly go a few hours before bed. And if you're reaching for food, it's a stress response. So this leads me into my next one, is that when the feeling arises, when the feeling is coming up and you're doing something to cope with it, right? It could be a coping mechanism that's very healthy. Like, let me have these organic snack bites from PaleoFX. No.
No, sit with the feeling, sit with the uncomfortable nature. What's going to happen if I don't blunt this subtle bubbling of an emotion? What's going to happen if I don't blunt this, this drive to suppress, right? This little opiate tingling, what's going to happen? Put that on the page, write it out. Be so bold as to write it out. You know, it always shocks me. I can put myself into tears with writing. I'm not going to say I'm a numb human being.
Freddie Kimmel (10:08.319)
But putting one foot in front of the other through a myriad of different surgeries has turned down the volume on my ability to access like that raw emotion. But if I write, if I write about what I'm feeling, I can open up the floodgates. And so I would offer, if you're up for the challenge, when something uncomfortable is coming up for you, put the pen to the page and write it down and see what's coming up for you.
kinda basic, but I just wanna say the last thing is I am looking and observing my allostatic load. What is my allostatic load? It is my total stress bucket. Imagine me as this great big metal barrel. Well, how much stress can Freddy take before he starts to break down and becomes almost, I enter a freeze, right? A little bit of a trauma response, or I just wanna lay down on the couch and lean into Game of Thrones.
episode, you know, 123456, right? I'm numbing with that behavior. But what happens if I observe my stress load, my allocetic load, and I really start to witness when I need to off gas when I need to pour something out of the bucket, the big barrel of stress. So yesterday, that was a magnesium bath in the middle of the day with a little cold therapy. I just did some contrast therapy. But man, did it chill me out.
These are just ways for me to manage so I don't get to some level that's severely problematic and that's not living in my tissue long-term. So really witnessing my stress levels and whatever you want to do to manage that, right? All of the aforementioned, going for a walk, movement is energy. It's moving that emotion, energy in motion. It's so powerful. Such a basic little biohack, but just going for a walk. I mentioned the hot and cold.
Contrast therapy it could be the breath work. It could be writing on a page. All these things do wonders for the body So I say all this and this is my stream of consciousness podcast because it's on my mind and I'm it's something's gonna come out of it and I don't know what it is, but sometimes Speaking the word and putting it out there. I'm gonna call in a deeper solution than I ever could have imagined I want to remind you I'm here
Freddie Kimmel (12:33.685)
You know, you can message me on social media. do a pretty darn good job at responding to people. I've even been known to like pick up the phone call. Now, if you drop me your DM phone number, it doesn't mean I'm gonna call you back. But I've done that because I'll get these questions. like, oh my God, that is too much to answer in a text. There is no way I can digest that all. So maybe it's a voice memo. The other thing that I just want to mention is weekly like
Twice a week we're putting out little videos on all these unique diagnostic testings that I'm doing. Like I'm just leaning into the true diagnostic or the DNA company or the Biome FX stool diagnostic. I'm getting all this information and I'm really, man, I mentioned it. I mentioned it on a couple of podcasts ago. I'm very proud of my bowel movements right now. It's like incredible. And from a kid who had his intestine hacked apart,
It's something I never thought I would regain to this level of perfection. And it's like, man, I want to turn around, I want to take a picture and maybe that's my post on Monday. I'm not going to do that because I think I'd get booted off the internet. I want to say, I really love you guys. When I jump in and look at posting the podcast and I see like a couple thousand people, 4,000, 5,000, 6,000 people a month are listening to the show. It just, I'm proud.
You know, I'm proud of what we're doing. I'm proud of you spending time with me. We are figuring this out together. There are no absolute answers. The more I'm in this can-tainer, can-tainer, the more I realize that it is this hyper bio individual medicine that is going to save us. And that's going to be tough to scale. You know, it's really going to start with education. It's going to start with radical ownership of health. It's going to be you.
It's going to be you learning about your body and the systems of the body and how they all interact and how no one of those systems is independent of the other. And that is the magic of today. That's the information that we have access to, but it's the gross, profound responsibility that we have because with what? What did Stanley say? What did Spider-Man say? With great power comes great responsibility. I love you guys.
Freddie Kimmel (14:58.995)
